GET ready for another dunking!
We’re heading back onto the water to share more memories of Colchester’s popular raft race in Castle Park.
Last week we printed pictures of the 1982 event.
This time we’re fast-forwarding 12 months to the race that took place in July 1983.
Once again, these photos were kindly donated by photographer Michael Emerson.
The raft race was organised by the Colchester Lions Club and became a staple part of Colchester’s social calendar during the 80s.
Teams entered homemade ‘vessels’ and made their way from Middle Mill Bridge to the weir just above East Mill (Marriage’s Mill, now converted into apartments).
They then battled to make their way back to Middle Mill.
