A MEMBER of staff and two pupils at the King John School have tested positive for coronavirus

Parents were told of the cases in letters, which have now been published on the Thundersley school's website. 

Confirming the case relating to the staff member and a in a Year 13 pupil, head Melanie McGauley told parents: "We have been advised that one member of staff has tested positive for Covid-19.

"We also have a non-related positive Covid-19 case in Year 13. From the moment we were informed of the positive tests, all processes and procedures advised have been enacted.

"A small number of students who have been in direct prolonged contact with the confirmed cases have been contacted and will now self isolate until 28 October, they will be back in the community on 29 October and we look forward to welcoming them back into school on 2 November."

She added: "We know that you may find this concerning but are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England.

"This letter is to inform you of the current situation and provide advice on how to support your child. Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus will be a mild illness.

"The school remains open and your child should continue to attend if they remain well."

In a separate letter, the head added: "We have been informed of a positive Covid-19 case in Year 9.

"The student has not been in school this week and from the moment we were informed of the positive test, all processes and procedures advised have been enacted.

"This involves following the the national guidance and a risk assessment with Public Health England (PHE) advisers.

"A small number of year 9 students who have been in direct prolonged contact with the confirmed case have been contacted and will now self isolate until 30 October, they will be back in the community on 31 October and we look forward to welcoming them back into school on 2 November."

The school remains open and childrem should continue to attend if they remain well.
