A THUG who launched an unprovoked attack on a nurse has been warned he is likely to face a spell in prison.

Kai Brazier claims he has no memory whatsoever of the ugly assault at Colchester Hospital.

The 21-year-old was being treated for severe whiplash after he was in a car accident while on a driving lesson in November.

But he inexplicably started becoming abusive to staff, stood up and destroyed a monitor before a nurse moved to calm him down down.

Brazier then smashed them in the face causing a large gash.

He admitted criminal damage and assault when he appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court in August.

During a hearing at Ipswich Crown Court, he further admitted breaching a suspended sentence order he was given in 2018 for grievous bodily harm after being convicted of punching a rough sleeper in the face.

The court heard Brazier, of Arnold Drive, Colchester, had no recollection of the hospital assault, was horrified when he was shown CCTV of the attack and was remorseful for his actions which he still cannot explain.

Judge David Pugh agreed to adjourn sentencing for a medical report to assess whether Brazier’s actions could be explained by a combination of his injuries and medication.

He was bailed until December but Judge Pugh warned him to expect to go to prison.

“The fact I am giving you bail is no indication whatsoever of the likely final outcome,” he said.

“This was an assault on somebody who was doing their job in trying to help you and you are in a breach of a suspended sentence order for a serious offence.

“It is highly likely the outcome will be immediate custody.

“But I am giving this chance for a medical report to be produced.”
