THE weather might be getting colder but there is still plenty to do at Colchester Zoo this October half term.

The popular Maldon Road attraction is bringing back their Shriek Week activities between October 24 and November 1...including the chance to see dinosaurs.

A spokesman for Colchester Zoo said: "Please be aware that this year will be a little different as we have worked to create a safe and fun set of activities for the whole family to enjoy."

This is what you and your little ones can expect:

Pirate Chester’s Trail

A treasure trail where you have to solve clues and find the hidden goodies. All participating youngsters could win an animal experience. Trail sheets will be available at the entrance.

Pirate Chester’s Cove

Fund and gruesome Halloween games will be on offer Chester’s Cove along the social distance route.

Dinosaurs

This year the prehistoric pals, Blu, Spino, Trixy & Baby T, will be at the Wild Displays Lawn at different intervals throughout the day between 11am and 3pm.

Pumpkin Carving (small charge applies)

Pumpkins can be picked close to the All Saints Church and then carved into a masterpiece.

You can then take your pumpkin home or donate it so the animals can enjoy it with their other food.

There will be no competition this year but anyone who donates theirs to the animals could win a keeper shadowing experience.

Witches Coven – (small charge applies)

Create your own spells and wands with the good witches and wizards at Colchester Zoo.

Trail of Terror

The zoo has been forced to cancel their Fright Night activity this year due to Covid restrictions...but have come up with a new spooky night time activity for those brave enough.

The Trail of Terror must be booked in advance with entries available between 6pm and 8pm when the rest of the zoo is shut.

A zoo spokesman said: "Unfortunately our ever-popular ‘Fright Nights’ will not be taking place this year due to Covid-19, however we plan to introduce a new experience that we can provide with safety measures in place to offer screams and scares in the evening.

"All event details, dates and times are subject to change without prior notification."
