A RETIRED teacher has helped produce a cookbook in aid of a cancer charity after using lockdown to get baking.

Kathy Bamforth, 65, of West Bergholt, produced the book for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Kathy said: “There seems to have been a lot more baking going on during lockdown with many of us dusting off old recipes and trying out new ones.”

The retired teacher decided to publish the fundraising book because of uncertainty over whether the annual Macmillan coffee mornings would be going ahead.

In previous years, Kathy has raised hundreds of pounds for the charity by holding a coffee morning at her home.

She said: “Being unsure about whether, or how, we were going to have our Macmillan coffee morning this year, I felt a recipe book might be a good idea so asked friends to give me their favourite recipes.

“I am always overwhelmed by the generosity of people at the coffee mornings and people have been equally generous with their recipes.

Gazette:

“I have loved getting not only the recipes, but the stories behind them.”

The recipe book contains more than 30 recipes.

Kathy, whose talents include knitting and craft-making as well as baking, is also raising money by selling crafts she and her friends have made.

It is hoped a Macmillan coffee morning will be going ahead, with limited numbers to comply with NHS and Government guidelines over social distancing.

One is due to be held in the garden of a friend in West Bergholt tomorrow while Kathy is organising a cake sale from her home on Saturday.

Copies of the Lockdown Recipe Book 2020 can be bought from Stitches Colchester in Sir Isaac’s Walk, or Ash’s in Colchester Road, West Bergholt.
