COLCHESTER has finally been put on a weather map after complaints about its disappearance.

The BBC has moved to put the town on its weather map for East Anglia following pressure from campaigners.

Colchester High Steward Sir Bob Russell raised the town’s absence with BBC bosses and even submitted an official complaint to the organisation’s head office in London.

He said: “Colchester has the largest population of any authority area in the county of Essex, but it seldom appeared on the BBC weather map for the east of England although Chelmsford did.”

Last year the BBC changed how it featured weather forecasts on both radio and television, and for TV this included changes to the graphics.

Sir Bob said: “I am pleased that Colchester is now being named. I am grateful to the BBC for listening to what I had said and have responded positively.

“This is all positive for Colchester, promoting the name and making it clear to viewers where in the region we are.

“We know where we are, but my life’s experiences are that lots of people do not have a clue where various towns and cities are located in the UK. The regional weather map is educational and not just for the weather forecast.”
