A LITTLE girl has taken on a challenge to raise money to help find a cure for cancer after the death of her beloved grandad.

Felicity Walker, who is four years old, took on a three-mile bike ride around Colchester in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Her grandad Mark Walker, known as Gangdad to Felicity, died in August last year after battling cancer.

In the lead up to the anniversary of his death, Felicity decided to hold a fundraiser to help other people battling the disease.

Her mum Emily, 28, said: “My daughter always speaks about him but due to it coming up to the one year of his passing, she started asking questions.

“She asked ‘Why didn’t the doctors save him? They make people better.’

“So I explained to her about cancer not having a complete cure yet.

“She said she wanted cancer to stop. So I told her we can’t stop cancer, but we can help raise some money to help find a cause.

“She said ‘Mummy will it stop other people’s gangdads dying?’

“I gave her some ideas and she choose a bike ride.”

Despite the heatwave and having a fall from her bike, Felicity completed her challenge and has raised £400 so far for the charity.

Emily added: “She did fall over coming round a corner, she scraped her arm and she hit her head.

“Luckily had her helmet on, but she kept going for Gangdad.

Gazette:

“She didn’t complain once, which was a shock to us.

“Me, her dad and sister Poppy are proud of her.

“It means a lot to my husband for her to have wanted to do something to honour her grandad.”
