Carol Kirkwood has apologised after a slip of the tongue live on BBC Breakfast.

The weather presenter left viewers laughing after saying there were “lots of doggers” in Greenwich Park during a live broadcast today.

Kirkwood was reporting on the heatwave when she got her words mixed up, leading to lots of amused comments from people on social media.

The 58-year-old immediately spotted the error and quickly corrected herself, saying: "Not doggers of course, lots of dog walkers and joggers around here through the course of this morning."

She later tweeted: "That will teach me to try and say joggers and dog walkers in the same sentence!!! Sorry!"

The clip was posted online and her name was soon trending.

Radio 1 breakfast host DJ Greg James posted the clip and said: “Yet further proof that @carolkirkwood is a National Treasure.”

Her BBC Breakfast colleague Dan Walker quoted the tweet to simply say “long may she reign”.

The Sun columnist Dan Wootton suggested: “The heat has got to our Carol.”

One Twitter user praised the star’s professionalism, saying: “So commendable how you kept a straight face – ever the professional!”
