A FORMER fire station is to go under the hammer with a guide price of £330,000

The station, in High Street, Great Wakering, is a seven-bedroom “property in need of modernisation”.

It was converted into a home following change of use planning permission granted in 2000.

It boasts three bathrooms and three kitchens, but the work was never fully completed.

Auctioneers Dedman are set to sell the property.

Information for potential buyers says: “The property internally is in need of modernisation and the building itself may require some repair due to structural movement.

“It is considered that the property could be converted and improved to create multiple occupancy letting or self-contained flats or the plot may be able to be redeveloped to create multiple dwellings subject to planning permission.”

In addition to the current accommodation there is internal floor space measuring 2,688 square foot over two floors to the rear of the building which is currently used for storage.

Planning permission was previously granted to demolish the existing building and replace it with three homes in 1988 but this is now lapsed.

Mike Gray, managing director of Dedman said inquiries from buyers showed more interest in turning the home into one large residential property rather than flats.

He added: “Properties of this kind always create a great deal of interest. This original Wakering fire station has become available for further conversion to residential accommodation .

“An earlier planning consent has lapsed but the building offers a possible refurbishment project to a large house.

“Recent interest indicates it could become a single dwelling house rather than flats and some applicants intend to retain the original character and appearance of the fire station.

The building is to be sold at auction on Wednesday, July 29.
