Members of the public helped detain a suspect in connection with a robbery.

Police were called to reports of a robbery at the Co op store in Church Street, Bocking, yesterday afternoon (Sunday, July 12).

A male was detained by members of the public and officers arrested one man in connection with the incident.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "A man has been arrested following a robbery at a village shop.

"A staff member at The Co-Operative in Church Street, Bocking, was threatened by a man with a knife at 6pm yesterday (Sunday, July 12).

"The suspect left with a quantity of cash, and was seen escaping on a bicycle.

"A 45-year-old man from Braintree was arrested within ten minutes of the incident being reported. A knife was recovered near the scene.

"He remains in custody for questioning on suspicion of robbery.

"We are continuing our enquiries and witnesses who have yet to come forward are asked to call Braintree CID on 101 quoting reference 42/103252/20 or report online at https://www.essex.police.uk."
