THE collection of garden waste by Colchester Borough Council is a service provided within our council tax payments.
Many of us with larger gardens consider we already pay more than enough council tax and this proposed withdrawal of service is discriminatory against us, typically living in rural communities.
The council has already reduced the number of sacks collected (from eight to four at certain times of the year) and the current sacks hold approximately 1/3 less volume than the previous supply.
There’s only so much compost a garden needs and not all waste is suitable for home composting.
If the council withdraws this service completely, there will be an increase in bonfires.
The proposal is unfair and environmentally unfriendly.
I hope the council will do the right thing and continue garden waste collection.
