A teenager has been arrested after a knife and knuckleduster were found after two men were "chased" through a public park.

Essex Police say two youths were spotted by walkers chasing two men, allegedly armed with the weapons, through the King George's Playing Field, in Rayleigh.

After a search, police arrested one youth on suspicion of possession of a bladed article and possession of an offensive weapon at Rayleigh train station. 

A second youth fled the area. 

A spokesman said: "Officers attended the area and located two youths matching the description by Rayleigh Train Station, who then made off from officers.

"Officer's were able to detain one of the youths who was searched.

"Officers found a knuckle duster and a large knife in a sheath.

"Further area searches were conducted with help and support provided by Southend A Shift Officers BTP and Special Constables.

"The youth, not from the area, was arrested on suspicicion of possession of a bladed article and possession of an offensive weapon.

"He is in custody and awaits interview."
