The public has been told not to visit Colchester's recycling centre "until further notice unless absolutely necessary."

Residents have been flocking to Shrub End Recycling Centre since it opened two weeks ago.

But on Monday it was forced to close early after reports of traffic problems caused by people queuing to get into the tip.

On Tuesday Love Essex, responsible for promoting County Hall's waste centres, urged people not to visit.

In a post Love Essex said: "Please do not visit Colchester Recycling Centre until further notice unless absolutely necessary.

"The site is subject to temporary closures due to health and safety concerns.

"Where possible, please use your kerbside collections. We appreciate your patience and understanding at this time."

The tip had reopened on May 18 with restrictions and social distancing controls in place to ensure the safety of staff and users.
