A CREATIVE mother-of-six has started her own children's sleepover party business - and even hopes to get adults in on the fun.

Steph Wheeler, of Colchester, was inspired to set up Sleepy in my Teepee after a bad experience using a similar firm for her own children's birthday.

The new firm offers sleepover parties based on various different themes such as "Unicorn Dreams" or "Welcome to the Jungle".

Steph, 34, said: "I came up with the idea of starting my own children’s sleepover business when I hired a company for my child’s birthday party.

"Unfortunately we had a very bad experience as the tents were not CE tested and they fell apart as soon as my children tried to get in them.

"Realising there was a market for sleepover parties, I decided I wanted to start my own business, while making sure I would be providing a fun but safe service.

"All my tents are CE compliant and I’ve worked hard to create some unique and beautiful themes."

The business was ready to launch at the end of March, however the coronavirus pandemic put the breakers on plans.

However Steph has used the additional time to refine her equipment and develop new ideas and she is even planning to introduce larger tents so adults can join the fun.

Steph, who also runs an eyelash business from home, said: "Unfortunately I was ready to launch at the end of March just as we went into lockdown, this put my plans on hold and although I was upset, I’ve used the time to plan some new themes.

"I’ve recently completed an infection prevention and control course and I’m starting to take sibling only bookings from July, should the Government rules allow it.

"I offer some lovely extras including a donut wall, personalised bottles and sleep masks and I work alongside some great companies that offer balloons, cakes and sweets. "

She added: "Children deserve to have something to look forward to with so many having lost out on birthday parties so I’m looking forward to putting a smile on their faces again."
