AN expectant mum whose weight loss exploits helped her conceive has picked up a Slimming World award.

Shannon Wheeler has been named the Myland Camulos Academy group's Greater Loser for 2020 after losing four and-a-half stone in the past 12 months.

The 28-year-old, who is expecting her first child, is determined to continue her new healthy lifestyle to ensure a healthy pregnancy and birth.

Slimming World consultant Genette Flatman and the rest of the group are fully behind Shannon, with the group's classes taking place virtually during the lockdown.

Shannon, who lives in Highwoods, said: "I am absolutely delighted that not only have I lost four and-a-half stone, it has allowed me and my husband the best chance to fall pregnant.

"I still have some way to go on my journey but with the fantastic support and help of Genette I know I will remain focused throughout the pregnancy and I will get to my target in the near future."

Genette said the joyous baby news was the talk of the group and members were delighted for the happy couple.

She said: "I couldn't be happier for Shannon and her husband, and I know all the group members are so excited too.

"I have the feeling everyone will now be knitting baby cardigans and blankets.

"It can be an exhausting and very hormonal time and there is a temptation to eat for two but the Slimming World plan is so safe and generous it can be followed throughout the entire pregnancy and breastfeeding, indeed it is the only weight loss plan in the UK to be endorsed by the Royal College of Midwives.

"Shannon is determined to be a happy, healthy and fit first time mummy and is excited to share and continue her pregnancy with her fellow slimming world slimmers."
