A COUNCILLOR says his army of volunteers are ready and willing to help vulnerable residents who are having issues with shopping deliveries.

Dave Harris (Lab, Berechurch) has received reports of delivery drivers refusing to take shopping to vulnerable residents doorsteps if they live up a level of stairs.

He said: "One lady contacted me who is vulnerable, self-isolating and cannot leave her flat.

"She booked a slot for her foodstuffs and essentials and was due to arrive between 7am and 10am.

"She was expecting the carrier bags to be left at her front door.

"She was told this was not going to happen, and of course she could not get down stairs to bring up the bags herself. She had to therefore cancel the drop off."

He added: "I am therefore deeply concerned how many other vulnerable people are being left without a drop off like this."

Mr Harris, who is coordinating a group of 40 volunteers in his area, has told residents not to panic if they are in the same situation and instead contact him to arrange help.
