Colchester Carnival may have been put on hold until 2021 due to the pandemic but we've had a delve in the archives to bring you pictures from years gone by.

Featured are images from the mid 1990s and late 2010s.

The carnival returned to the town last year after a break since 2016.

For six years up to 2016 it has been run by Colchester Round Table and Colchester Ladies Circle, but they then decided to take a step back.

At its peak, the July event has attracted around 1,000 performers and 15,000 spectators.

It raised around £40,000 for charities between 2011 and 2016.

Last year the town's firefighters stepped in to bring it back to Colchester.

Traditionally the carnival was held in July but last year the firefighters opted for September as it is outside the summer holidays.
