AN inspirational dad who survived coronavirus and two severe strokes will be the subject of a research study in a bid to help others with the condition.

Omar Taylor spent almost a month in intensive care at Colchester Hospital fighting Covid-19, contracting pneumonia, sepsis and suffering heart failure and a double stroke.

But the 31-year-old miraculously recovered and is now back at home in Rowhedge with wife Kaitlyn, daughter Vivienne, four, and son Harrison, two.

Omar’s case has been selected by scientists to be subject to a special research project exploring the impacts of the deadly condition.

Student nurse Kaitlyn said: “The doctors have asked him for his permission to research into his situation and his recovery. They think it will benefit other Covid-19 patients.

“Omar gave his consent so doctors will study his medical reports and the information the hospital holds.

“We are happy to try and help anyone else. We don’t want anyone else to go through what we have so anything we can do to stop that would be amazing.”

Care manager Omar was taken to ICU at Colchester Hospital on March 22, three days after being admitted with breathing difficulties.

He spent almost a month in intensive care, including being on a ventilator, and also suffered two strokes from bleeds to his brain.

But after being given the all-clear on April 18 Omar is now continuing his rehab at home.

Kaitlyn said: “Lots of people have messaged me saying seeing Omar’s story has given them hope.

“It is nice to see he is inspiring others.

“He is doing really good at home. His speech is not there yet but he is doing better and he has been getting a lot of therapy at home.

“We are working on three word sentences at the moment.”

She added: “People have said to me seeing Omar’s story has spurred them on and said it has been nice to see a positive recovery story in the news.”

Friends and neighbours have raised more than £17,000 towards Omar’s recovery.
