A further eight patients have died at Colchester Hospital after contracting Covid-19.

Latest figures show 121 people have sadly died at the East Suffolk and North Essex trust since the outbreak began.

In an update yesterday a further 16 deaths were confirmed.

One occurred on April 8, five on Saturday and 10 on Sunday.

Nick Hulme, chief executive of the trust, said: “We can confirm that eight patients, two in their 90s, five in their 80s, and one in their 70s, all of whom had underlying health conditions, have sadly passed away at Ipswich Hospital.

"Eight patients, three in their 90s, two in their 80s, two in their 70s and one in their 50s, all of whom had underlying health conditions, has sadly passed away at Colchester Hospital.

"They had all tested positive for COVID-19.

“Our thoughts and condolences remain with the patients’ families and loved ones at this difficult time.”

It means 63 patients patients have now died at Colchester Hospital.
