A RETRO-themed nightclub will stream a live house party in a bid to raise vital cash for the NHS during the coronavirus pandemic.

Rubix, in Crouch Street, Colchester, closed its doors after the UK was put in lockdown last month.

Despite not being able to open, the club decided it wanted to keep people’s spirits up during social distancing while also giving back to frontline doctors, nurses and paramedics.

On Saturday, the venue will offer customers a chance to escape the trying times while helping to support NHS staff saving lives with a virtual house party.

Jeremy Durrant and Ross Thurston from Rubix will stream an evening of retro classics from the 70s, 80s and 90s via Facebook.

They will be taking live requests and shout outs through the course of the evening.

In return they are asking for donations to the Colchester and Ipswich Hospitals Charity.

The money will be used to support staff at the East Suffolk and North Essex Hospital Trust.

The charity has launched an appeal to specifically aid the welfare and wellbeing of staff during these difficult times.

Mr Durrant said: “The idea is to dance and donate. We also want to give people a bit of fun if isolated at home.

“Hopefully we will have everyone dancing round the kitchen table with the family.”

Rubix opened in the base of the former Waikiki bar in April last year. It offers Eighties party nights every week and Seventies disco nights and Nineties events.

The event will take place from 8pm tomorrow via the club’s Facebook page. Visit Facebook and search Rubix Bar.
