Plans for extra hospital space in Powys are still be organised as the county prepares for an increase in coronavirus cases.

Councils have received new powers to allow them to support the NHS and increase hospital capacity in Wales.

Housing and Local Government Minister Julie James introduced emergency measures allowing councils to change the use of buildings or put up temporary buildings without planning permission.

Powys Council and Powys Teaching Health Board have held talks, but have not yet said how they will increase capacity.

Trust assistant director Adrian Osborne said: “We are working closely with our neighbouring acute hospital providers in Wales and England where they will have specialist expertise needed to support people who become more seriously ill with Covid-19. People in Powys can be reassured that these hospitals are taking account of the needs of Powys in their planning.”

Powys Council said the partners were "working together reviewing capacity and demand" but said no specific plans have yet been finalised.
