THE Colchester Half Marathon might not be happening this year, but we’ve had a delve into the archives to have a look back at the last ten years.

More than 3,500 runners were set to take to the streets again for the tenth Colchester Half Marathon this year but organisers took the decision to cancel it for 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Runners will still be presented with medals and T-shirts once the coronavirus restrictions are lifted.

Organisers said it was to recognise a “half marathon is hundreds of miles in training, with the last 13.1 recorded on race day.”

Over the years seasoned runners, first-time racers and those donning fancy dress have all laced up their shoes to take part.

The race was first run in 2011.

It was fully booked 17 days before the race and 1,000 runners pounded the pavements.

Four years in it was officially named the fastest-growing race in the UK by governing body UK Athletics.

The race is organised by the Colchester Colne Round Table and has raised thousands of pounds for a variety of charities over the years.

It is now so popular thousands of people sign up months in advance to get their place.

Organisers are now working on the 2021 race. Visit www.colchesterhalfmarathon.co.uk.
