A ZEALOUS campaigner has threatened councillors they will be “heckled every time they appear” if they approve plans for a new adult cabaret venue in Colchester town centre.

Andy Hamilton, famous for protesting outside council meetings against defunct swingers club Mingles, said he’s ready and willing to wage a similar campaign against Solo Summers.

Ian Saunders wants to open the new business in the old Embassy Suite building, in Balkerne Hill, Colchester.

Mr Hamilton said: “Should this sex club get planning permission I will be there every night it opens outside on the pavement in my silent protest letting my boards speak for me.

“I will also be outside the town hall before every council meeting shaming this morally deficient authority for permitting this sordid enterprise to open.

“It is time Colchester Council put moral principles ahead of their disreputable support of these foul trades.

“I really doubt councillors will dare to appear in publicly announced events if they know they will get heckled every time they appear.

“Previously I did not say anything to them but they will find I have a loud voice when needed.”

Colchester Council will have the final say on plans to change the premises into a sex entertainment venue.

The application has so far attracted 77 objections online but also 58 expressions of support.

Mr Saunders says the business is not sleazy nor sordid and will offer entertainment for all genders and sexualities as well as bringing investment into the town.

He said: “I have been sensitive to fellow businesses to create a win-win for all.

“[We are] bringing new forms of entertainment into the town on historically quiet nights in the hope we can all feed off one another and collectively make the town one of the most exciting and vibrant towns to visit for a guaranteed good, as well as safe, night out regardless of the day of week.”

The business has launched its new website which details the types of events it will host which includes singles nights, couples events, cabaret, drag, strip shows and more.
