PEOPLE will be able to step back in time and step aboard steam trains from the past.

The East Anglian Railway Museum, in Chappel, will be hosting a two-day Steam Gala.

It takes place at the station from Saturday, March 14, to Sunday, March 15.

The event promises to be a brilliant spectacle, giving visitors the chance to get up close and personnel with some iconic British steam trains.

The intensive steam action showcase will also feature the museum’s home fleet of locomotives with visitors allowed an unlimited number of train rides.

Visitors will also get the chance to experience life on a selection of British railway coaches ranging from the 19th century to the 1950s.

People can explore the Victorian station buildings, learn how to operate the signal box, and visit the Restoration Shed for a behind-the-scenes look at the museum’s locomotive restoration programme.

Perhaps the jewel in this event’s crown is a special visit from a GWR 5526 Small Prairie, coming all the way from South Devon Railway for the event.

Sunday roasts will also be available to visitors on day two. Pre-booking a lunch is advisable by emailing info@platform2cafe.co.uk.

Tickets are £12 for adults and £6 for children aged four to 15.

Children under 4 go free.
