A GROUP of young people were given a behind the scenes tour of the Essex Fire and Rescue Service headquarters.

Eight year nine students from Colchester Academy visited the Kelvedon HQ, where they learnt about the different career opportunities available in the service.

Students spoke to members of staff about their roles and got to see what happens when the fire service takes a 999 call.

After leaving the headquarters they visited the Urban Search and Rescue team in Lexden, where they saw canine crew members Fizz and Jarvis in action.

Watch manager Dave Bone organised the visit through Unity Enterprises East Anglia, a charity which coaches and mentors young people aged 12 to 25.

He said: "These visits are all designed to inspire the next generation.

"We get the opportunity to show them the varied careers we offer in the fire service and how much you can achieve when you approach life and work with the right attitude and confidence.”
