A trespasser who climbed onto the roof of a train station platform, and stayed there for almost three hours, has been sentenced.
The incident, which took place at Southend Central Station on October 31 last year, caused huge disruption across the c2c network, delaying thousands of commuters on their travels.
The British Transport were called at 3.55am, with lines being blocked from shortly before 5am, due to a man going between the roof of platform one and two at the station.
Power to the overhead cables at the station had to be turned off as a precaution while the British Transport Police tried to get the man down.
Officers and paramedics attended the incident, and the man was brought down by 6.45am. He was then taken to safety.
Transport police stated the man was in “a mental health crisis” and received medical assistance and attention afterwards.
On their Twitter page, the British Transport Police said: "Remember the man who climbed onto the @c2c_Rail #Southend Central roof early on 31/10/19 disrupting thousands of passengers?
"He's been sentenced to 200 hours of unpaid work, 30 days rehabilitation training, a thinking skills programme, £149 surcharge and an 8 month suspended sentence."
