A HIT drama filmed in and around Tollesbury is set to air next month.

Downton Abbey actress Joanne Froggatt and Welsh actor Ioan Gruffudd were seen filming at Tollesbury marina last year.

The actors, along with the crew, were shooting the second series of Liar written by The Missing creators Harry and Jack Williams.

ITV has now teased a first look at the six-part drama ahead of it airing.

In the trailer Tollesbury features prominently with clips of the marshes and marina seen.

Back in 2017 the show was credited with giving tourism in the area a big boost.

The striking marshlands at Tollesbury Marina featured on every episode of the first series, serving as the background to the opening titles while numerous scenes were filmed.

The emotional thriller saw renowned surgeon Andrew Ellis, played by Gruffudd, murdered and his body dumped on the marshes after his predatory behaviour towards women was revealed.

This time the story follows detectives uncovering clues about Andrew’s past and unpacking the events of the three crucial weeks leading up to his murder.

Katherine Kelly, of Mr Selfridge fame, joins the cast as DI Karen Renton, who is tasked with unravelling the mystery.

The new series will also see Musketeers actor Howard Charles and Downton Abbey star Amy Nuttall join the team.

Polly Hill, head of drama at ITV, said: “We’re delighted both Joanne and Ioan are returning to Liar with Katherine Kelly joining the cast.

"We’re sure audiences will once again be gripped by the story and keep you guessing over who killed Andrew.”

The area has also been put in the spotlight with the production of White House Farm, an ITV series based on the murders of the Bamber family in nearby Tolleshunt D’Arcy.

The series finale is being screened tomorrow starting at 9pm.
