COLCHESTER Castle has been bathed in light as part of a move to showcase the town’s best historical assets.
New LED colour-changing lights have been installed at the castle, the largest Norman keep in Europe, to improve the lighting after dark.
It comes as Colchester Council prepares to light a section of the town’s Roman Wall on a permanent basis from next month.
A 30-metre stretch of the wall, extending to the south of Balkerne Gate, will be lit up from dusk until 11pm each night.
This permanent lighting scheme, which has been approved by Historic England, also uses LED lighting.
Mark Cory, council leader, added: “We have listened, and we are committed to celebrating our heritage by making projects such as this possible.
“These lighting schemes exhibit two stunning pieces of heritage lit up after dark.”
