A CAMPAIGN set up by a schoolgirl to raise £300,000 to send her friend to the states for cancer treatment has reached it's target in just one week.

Lily Whythe, 13, from Eastwood, has an inoperable brain tumour and is hoping to take part in a ground-breaking clinical trial to kill the cancer.

The genius idea by Lily's school friend, Lillie Cotgrove, to create One Pound Warriors just last week, received worldwide attention.

Echo:

Lily's JustGiving page has had more than 17,000 donations with the total sitting at around £198,000.

Donations have also been made directly to Lily's parents, Diane and Martin, via bank transfer, as well as donations from a number of fundraisers held by the community.

The grand total is yet to be counted. Anything left over will be donated to a "worthy charity".

Lily's parents posted their joy on social media tonight: "Back in November set up the go fund me page for estimated treatment costs in America of £300,000. "We’ve since been told the basic package for Cart T Cells is from £250,000.

"Today we hit that target.

"With all the fundraising going on we are sure to go over that by quite a bit and this will be extremely helpful for additional costs and any surprises we encounter along the way.

"Any money that is donated and we do not use will be donated to another worthy charity.

"We would like to thank everyone for your donations and continued support.

"Without you all we would never of done this. From the bottom of our hearts we thank you!!"
