A WINDOW manufacturer is set to play a starring role in an episode in a much-loved TV series.

The BBC’s Great British Railway Journeys has finished filming at Crittall’s factory in Witham ahead of a new episode which will be broadcast next week.

The state of the art factory is said be iconic within the industry and is has been involved in the production of steel windows, doors and internal screens for more than 170 years.

Popular presenter Michael Portillo, the former Secretary of State and steam train enthusiast, is seen in the programme helping to shape a window for US Ivy League University, Yale.

He is joined by Crittall chairman John Pyatt who explains Silver End’s history and the 1930’s housing boom - highlighting his company’s “significant influence” on architectural design.

Crittall is the only firm to feature in the episode, which is produced by Boundless Productions.

The programme will be aired on BBC2 on Wednesday, January 22 at 6.30pm.
