BUSES will not stop outside the entrance to Colchester Hospital until further notice after construction work overran.

First Essex and Arriva said they were not able to serve the stops at the site as it was “unsafe to do so”.

Instead people using public transport must get off in Turner Road and walk to the hospital entrance.

The measures came into force on Friday and will remain until further notice.

In a post First Essex said: “Due to ongoing construction work which is making turning difficult and unsafe to do, we will not be serving the stops inside the hospital until further notice. We hope to be serving the hospital again as soon as possible, but for the time being buses will stop on Turner Road."

Paul Fenton, director of estates and facilities at East Suffolk and North Essex Trust, which runs Colchester Hospital, apologised.

He added: “We’re very sorry for the inconvenience caused to patients, visitors and staff by bus services being temporarily removed from the Colchester Hospital site.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, construction work at the front of the building has been slightly delayed and this has had an impact on the use of our turning circle for buses collecting and dropping off passengers.

“We’re working hard with our contractors so we can get services up and running again as soon as possible.”
