A SUPER slimmer who suffered an angina attack on a plane says her weight loss kept her alive.

Pat Globe, 75, joined the Greenstead Slimming World group in Colchester two years ago, when she was 73.

In that time she has lost almost six stone - dropping from 20st 11lbs.

In November, Pat was returning from holiday in Cape Verde with her husband, John, and she passed out on the plane.

Tests showed she had blocked arteries in her heart and if she had not lost weight, she may not have lived.

Pat said: “I was sitting by the window on the plane and I just got this chest pain. I just threw up everywhere and passed out.

“My husband was sitting next to me and the crew said they wanted to get me on to the end seat.

“The next thing I remember was laying on the floor between the seats.”

The crew managed to get Pat into the aisle seat and she was put on oxygen for the rest of the journey.

She said: “When we got to Gatwick the fire brigade and paramedics arrived. They said I had to go to hospital in East Surrey.

“The consultant said I was a lucky woman and if I hadn’t lost that weight I wouldn’t have been there.”

Before she joined Slimming World, Pat had little confidence it would help her because of her age.

She said she joined because she was “fed up of being fat” and it was impacting her mobility and general health.

She praised her consultant and group members for their support.

She said: “The diet doesn’t stop you eating anything but it encourages you to think, for example, not having butter with a jacket potato.

“My biggest challenge was to have confidence in myself and to persevere with the Slimming World system.

“I always used to walk with a stick but now I can get up and down the stairs more easily.

“I rarely use my wheelchair and no longer require a seatbelt extension on a plane.

“I feel I owe my life both to the cardiologist and the Slimming World group.”
