A POPULAR village pub has closed suddenly due to what has been described as unforeseen circumstances.
The Red Lion, which is situated just off the A120 in Marks Tey, announced the news on its Facebook page on Friday.
In a post on social media the landlords said: “We are very sad to announce that due to unforeseen circumstances The Red Lion will cease trading as of tomorrow.”
It added: “We would like to thank each and every one of our customers for their support over last three years.
“It is not a decision Charlie and Jen have taken lightly and 7 Gazette Monday January 6, 2020 www.gazette-news.co.uk we are all very sad to see the pub go.
“We have made some amazing memories with you guys over the years and, of course, made some lifelong friends.
“Once again thank you from everyone here at The Red Lion for making working here such a pleasure.”
The Red Lion is popular with villagers for food and drink and several residents have expressed their sadness on Facebook.
One regular said: “You revived the pub and made it a community hub for all on the estate.”
The Gazette contacted the pub but it had not responded at the time of going to press.
