A LIGHT painter has transformed iconic scenes of Colchester by creating luminescent images at night.
Andy Neal, from Colchester, is an award-winning wildlife photographer who uses a handheld light source to ‘paint’ within an image whilst the shutter of the camera is left open to create a long exposure.
Mr Neal, 34, said: “Light painting at it’s most basic is capturing the movement of light within a static image at night.
“It’s done by having the camera set up on a tripod with a long exposure.
“Whilst the shutter is open it is taking in any light that may be moving within the frame. This could include a torch, car lights passing or even stars trailing.”
He creates his own source of light using things like bunches of Christmas lights. He swings the lights around in different directions to create stunning patterns.
He has a few favourite shots of historic buildings around Colchester.
He said: “I had planned to take photos from Jumbo and also the castle but unfortunately due to building work being done the shots I had in mind were not possible.” Visit andrewneal.gallery.
