A HEALTH forum has raised concerns homeless people from London are still being rehoused in Essex.

Last December leaders from councils across Essex wrote a letter to London mayor Sadiq Khan and senior politicians in the capital.

The Essex Leaders and Chief Executives Group raised a series of issues, including a lack of communication between London authorities and Essex councils informing them of people being moved into the area, families being placed in inadequate housing, and the impact on services.

Mr Khan said he was “willing to play a part in conversations” between London boroughs and the local government association.

He claimed he made it clear to London boroughs they have an obligation to inform local authorities of any moves.

A report by the Health Forum Committee which went before clinical commissioning bosses yesterday said it remained concerned.

The report said: “Introduction of winter support programmes, particularly the issuing of meal vouchers in Tendring, has brought to light the fact that London boroughs are still placing homeless families in north east Essex.

“This is despite the promises of a year ago that boroughs would do all they could to stop sending vulnerable families out of London.”

The forum asked the board to consult with the Colchester and Tendring housing departments.

It also suggested the board explores if “details of vulnerability and need” are passed on to Tendring CVS and Community 360.
