COLCHESTER High Street will be pedestrianised for the return of the town's popular Christmas market.

Stalls offering toys, festive gifts, jewellery, crafts and of course food and drink will litter the road.

Footprints Street Theatre will be performing a Victorian Christmas and there'll be live music from musicians Simon, Terry and Dave as well as Chosen Vessels Community Gospel Choir.

There'll be festive fun and activities for children, including face painting, fairground rides and even a visit from the big man himself - Santa at 11am.

Several of Colchester Council's car parks - Butt Road, Middleborough, Napier Road and Sheepen Road - will be free for the day and a £1 all day deal will be available at the Britannia Car Park.

Leader of the council Mark Cory said: "Our Christmas Market gets bigger and better each year and it’s great that, once again, the high street will be filled with a wealth of stalls and attractions.

"With live music, children’s activities, funfair rides and street food, this will be the perfect place to shop, meet up with friends and family and enjoy the festive spirit.”

The market takes place between 10am and 5pm on Sunday, December 8.
