JUMBO will be lit up with twinkling golden stars every day in December to bring Christmas joy to the town.

The iconic landmark will be bathed in lights to tie in with Colchester’s links to Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.

It is part of a host of festive fun happening throughout the town to celebrate the Christmas period.

The world famous nursery rhyme started off life as a poem by Jane Taylor and was written in Colchester in 1806.

Sir Bob Russell, Colchester’s High Steward, is campaigning to have a statue of the Taylor sisters put up in the town.

Jumbo will be lit up every day in December from 4pm.

Sam Good, Colchester’s Business Improvement District manager, said: “Colchester has been synonymous with Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star for generations and its legacy is certainly worth fighting for.

“We are proud of this link and wanted to showcase just how much we care about our town’s heritage by making it this year’s Christmas campaign.

“The town is going to look resplendent this festive season, with Jumbo being beautifully lit up and our schools’ stunning star artwork adorning locations throughout the whole town.”
