EACH and every day, criminals cause misery across Colchester whether it be with violence, drug dealing or depraved sexual acts.

Here are the faces of the people police brought to justice in October who have received substantial jail sentences at crown court.

Rapist Norman Maddox was jailed for nine-and-a-half years following a sex attack in Colchester the 1970s.

The 64-year-old was also convicted of ABH for an incident in Colchester during the same time period.

Police said Maddox had thought he had got away with his horrendous crimes because of the time which had passed.

Pervert Thomas Willsher, of Chapel Road, Brightlingsea, was handed more than seven years in jail for grooming young girls on Facebook.

He set up a page with pictures he had stolen and arranged to meet one girl and got others to send him explicit picture.

The prolific offender, labelled a monster by one victim's mum, threatened to post them online if they did not send more.

Members of a drug line called Rico and Frank were locked up after trying to cover up a murder their friend Kieran Hayward committed.

The group sprang into action after the teenager from Bury St Edmunds stabbed a man to death in Ipswich in December.

They washed his clothes at a Colchester hotel and then transferred him to a caravan site in St Osyth but police eventually caught up with them.

Arun Jadeja, 18, of The Nook, Wivenhoe was handed 30 months in a youth detention centre, while Benjamin Gosbell, 21, of Gratian Close, Colchester; was handed the same term in jail.

Kieran Elliott, 17, of Stanford Close, Colchester was given an 18 month training and detention order.

Gazette:

Pervert former teacher and scout leader Rusell Howard-Tricker groomed a young boy at a Colchester school in the 1960s.

He also abused another teenager in a caravan at around the same time.

The 77-year-old was jailed for 14 years.

Gazette:

Terence Shad rammed a car and hurled racist abuse after he got drunk at a wedding.

The 36-year-old of Willingham Way, Colchester, also refused to give a blood test for his alcohol intake and was caught with a metal cosh.

He also bit a police officer on the leg and made horrific threats about his family.

Shad was on bail at the time for a previous road rage incident.

He was jailed for 15 months.
