A CLASSIC Nineties movie is being turned into a theatre production by a amateur group.
Witham Amateur Operatic Society is bringing Sister Act to the town’s Public Hall next week.
The show follows in the footsteps of the 1992 blockbuster film of the same name, which sees lounge-singer Deloris Van Cartie go undercover as a nun at a convent in a bid to escape mobsters.
Deloris has become their number one target after she witnessed them murdering her own boyfriend, but despite her need to stay under the radar, she wastes little time in upending the quiet in her new home.
In an effort to keep her out of mischief, the nuns assign Deloris to the convent choir where she soon helps to make the group vibrant and colourful.
Such is its success, the team grows closer together and ends up gaining widespread attention – the very thing Deloris was supposed to be avoiding.
The operatic society is staging the show each day between Monday and Saturday, October 21-26.
Performances are at 7.30pm, with a 2.30pm Saturday matinee.
Tickets range in price from £12.50 to £15, and concessions are available.
