POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a crash on the A12 northbound which saw a car overturn on the carriageway.

The accident took place near to the Eight Ash Green junction at around 10.15am on Saturday.

A grey Seat Ibiza is understood to have lost control and ended up on its roof.

Essex Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A spokesman said: "Fortunately the driver was not injured and we are investigating reports that a large white van had swerved close to the vehicle ahead of the collision."

There were long delays on the A12 and queues stretched back past Marks Tey on the northbound road.

The southbound side was also effected as drivers slowed down to see the incident unfold.

The accident also caused knock on delays across Colchester town.

Emergency services introduced a rolling roadblock in order to recover the vehicle from the carriageway and delay had eased by around 2pm.
