A VOLUNTEER has been honoured for her commitment to supporting the seafaring community.
Caroline Spencer received an award from the national maritime charity, the Shipwrecked Mariners’ Society.
Caroline, from Brightlingsea, has been an honorary agent for the charity since 2003, having taken over the role from her late husband, Jim, who had himself volunteered in the position from 1991.
Caroline has been a dedicated fundraiser for the society.
The collective efforts of the couple have raised thousands of pounds over the years helping to provide funds for the society’s work in supporting seafarers and their families.
Society chief executive Captain Justin Osmond said: “Caroline is thoroughly deserving of special recognition for her outstanding efforts.”
