CAMPAIGNERS got close to nature as part of a Planet Earth themed library day.

Across the county days of action were held to raise awareness of the importance of libraries.

Save Our Libraries Essex (SOLE) campaigners staged different events including the Planet Earth day at Wivenhoe Library.

Liz Miles, SOLE campaigner who organised the event, said: “The day of action was immensely successful and showed how much residents of all ages and backgrounds love their library.

“The Planet Earth theme was an example of how our library is an essential centre of learning, free knowledge, books and other resources for all.

“The event underlined yet again Wivenhoe residents want their library to flourish with less bureaucracy and more investment from the county council.”

Wildlife books were available to borrow and there was also a book detective quiz, children’s art and craft activities, face-painting, live music and a Sir David Attenborough cardboard cutout.

West Mersea Library also hosted a book festival with live storytelling, illustration and fun children’s activities.
