A MOTORCYCLIST was left trapped under a bin lorry after a crash. 

Emergency services were called to Straight Road in Colchester at about 7.20am this morning. 

Fire crews from Colchester and Wivenhoe attended. 

A fire service spokesperson said: "On arrival, crews confirmed that a motorcyclist was trapped under a refuse truck following the incident. No other vehicles were involved.

"Firefighters used lifting equipment to safely move the refuse truck, before leaving the casualty in the care of the ambulance service by 7.57am." 

The road has been closed. 

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We were called shortly after 7.15am this morning, with reports of a collision on Straight Road involving a refuse collection truck and a motorcyclist.

"The motorcyclist, a man in his 20s, has been taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening or life changing injuries.

"No arrests have been made and inquiries are ongoing." 

A spokesperson for Colchester Council said: “One of our refuse vehicles was involved in a collision this morning and our thoughts are with everyone involved.

"We will be working closely with the emergency services during their investigations into the issue.”

A spokesman for the ambulance service added: "We sent the Hazardous Area Response Team, an ambulance and an ambulance officer.

"One person was taken to Colchester Hospital for further care."
