THIS week’s archive images feature the East Hill area of Colchester.
While the hill and surrounding thoroughfares of East Bay and East Street have not fundamentally changed much through the decades the shops and buildings have.
Among those are the former Charles Brown & Son premises which were based in a group of buildings dating from the 14th to the 17th century.
Converted into three apartments in 2004, at the time the 15th century pack horse entrance was reinstated and moulded posts repaired.
And among the other notable buildings seen here are East Hill House and the Old Brewing Company, or East Hill Brewery which was built in the early 1870s.
