PUPILS from a primary school are joining a global strike day to combat climate change.

Dedham Primary School is sending its eco council of 19 pupils to learn what they and their school can do to help the fight against climate change.

The youngsters are joining the Global Youth Climate Strike, which is happening around the world today.

Shirley Sampson, warden of the public wildlife garden, in Flatford, Suffolk, is inviting young people of all ages to come together to support the passion of younger generations to stand up for a safer, greener and more wildlife-rich planet.

She said: “We aim to raise awareness of the things we can all do to work towards mitigating climate change, and we’ll also have information, displays and activities showing what the current big, global solutions are.

“We hope plenty of people will come along and wave a placard or banner, join in with our activities and get the latest info on fighting climate change.

“We hope that you may find time to come along, I think this is a very topical story, given that the clock is ticking on climate change, and the Government is currently rather distracted.

“It is also an inspiring story, as it is only by encouraging and empowering our energetic young people with the potential solutions, rather than the doom-and-gloom, that we can overcome this monumental problem.”

The children from Dedham Primary School will be on site from 10.30am until midday.

The event is free of charge and it will be running between 10.30am and 4pm, so feel free to come along.

People can attend as families, individuals, or in groups.

Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Food is not provided but feel free to bring your own picnic.

Dogs on leads are also welcome.
