A man has been arrested after reports that a shop worker was threatened with a knife.
An Essex Police dogs helped officers detain a man in Westcliff yesterday, after police were called with the reports of the incident.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We received information that at around 9.40pm that a man stole items from a shop in North Road before pulling out a knife after he was challenged.
"Our Dogs Support Unit attended and arrested the man with the assistance of Police Dog Zane. One of our officers reported that he was kicked by the man.
"A 26-year-old man from Rochford remains in custody on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and robbery.
"Anyone with information is asked to call Southend police station on 101 quoting incident 1262 of 15/09 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
