IDEAS are being sought from the public over the future use of a community building in Colchester.

Expressions of Interest are being invited for the Abbey Field Community Centre, which is being let to the Mercury Theatre whilst the main theatre is being renovated.

Once these works are completed the building is set to become available from Autumn 2020.

Colchester Council is looking to hear from organisations, business or groups which are interested in taking over management of the building for its future use to benefit the area.

Mike Lilley, councillor responsible for communities, wellbeing and public safety, said: "This is an exciting opportunity and we’re looking for proposals to sustain the future of this wonderful building and benefit the community.

"I look forward to seeing the interesting ideas that come forward and how these will help keep the centre thriving to help make a Better Colchester.”

A viewing day will take place next Thursday (Sep 12) between 10am and 3pm where officers will be available to answer questions.

Offers can be made to take over the facility until 12noon on October 2.
