DOZENS of military families came together for a thanksgiving summer barbecue at Colchester Garrison.

Organised by Sergeant Tirus Njenga, a paramedic with 16 Medical Regiment, the event focuses on bringing together families based on the Army base, particularly those from minority groups.

More than 200 people attended including dignitaries from Sgt Njenga’s home country in Kenya.

Revellers enjoyed food as well as sports activities like football, volleyball and tug of war.

Sgt Njenga said: “The event was attended by more than 200 people of different ethnicities from across the country.

“The master of ceremony Corporal Jackson Waweru acknowledged everyone that attended.”

“Pastor Muiruri of Leicester and Brother Paul Hardy lead the word of God and prayed for more blessings to the young couple, Tirus and Esther Njenga, for the wonderful event.”

The event was sponsored by Tgram Consultancy, a firm set up by Sgt Njenga.
