THE streets of Christchurch were lined with thousands of people eagerly awaiting the arrival of this year’s Christchurch Carnival parade on Sunday.

After a rainy start to the day, the clouds parted and the sun shone brightly for the highly-anticipated event, which is run by volunteers and raises money for local causes.

The carnival procession started from Two Riversmeet Leisure Centre and made its way along Bridge Street and Castle Street before heading up the High Street towards Fountain Roundabout. It then made its way down Sopers Lane, St Margaret’s Avenue and Wick Lane before finishing at The Quomps.

Leading the parade was a Jurassic Park Jeep and inflatable dinosaur.

Bournemouth Echo:

Near the front in a Morris Minor were the Carnival Star and Rising Star, 11-year-old Scarlett and six-year-old Thalia.

The Dolphin Marching Band followed behind, with several youngsters playing instruments. Bournemouth Carnival Band, whose members were all dressed as Spiderman, were also entertaining the crowds later in the parade.

Also in the procession were people in vintage cars and even a miniature trolleybus.

There was an environmental message during part of the parade, with a banner declaring ‘Love Christchurch Love our Environment’ and people dressed as flowers, butterflies, fish, and even a giant swan.

Members of the Dance Zone group performed their routines for the crowds.

Several charities also took part in the parade, including the Pink Champagne Breast Cancer Dragon Boat Team and Tyler’s Friends, which supports bereaved parents.

The parade arrived at The Quomps where there were games, rides, and live music.
