WITH the school holidays in full swing, Brightlingsea Lido is busier than ever.

Families from across Essex have been flocking to the outdoor pool to test the waters.

Clive Edwards has been lido manager since the start of the summer season and since he took over the running of the pool he said he has seen it become busier and busier.

He said: “I have been profoundly staggered by the overwhelming support for what has turned out to be Essex’s lost treasure.

“Taken from a dilapidated facility originally built in 1932, the love, hard work and effort delivered by volunteers and businesses has transformed the lido into a top destination for a great day out in Essex.”

A number of upgrades have been made since he took over.

He said: “The old plant that maintains water quality has been brought into the 21st century with high-tech monitors which control the amount of chemicals put into the water.

“There is also a UV system which has been added to further ensure better water quality with less of a need to rely on chemicals and new pumps reduce the power consumption needed. On top of all this, the lido now has a fantastic new community café.

“The support of visitors and feedback truly sums up there is a need and a want for outdoor swimming, family interaction and the health benefits that go with physical activity and being outdoors.”
